BROOM, David Robert
July 12, 1939 - December 5, 2017
David passed away peacefully at The North Shore Hospice from cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Rita Anne (nee Llewellyn); children Catherine (Sal Rayek), Hilarie (Terry Sheehan), Ness (Geoff Van Hassel); grandchildren Sophie, Evan and Charlie Sheehan; David Rayek; Zoe and Leah Van Hassel; brothers Colin (Pamela) and Michael (Andrea).
David was born in Manchester, England. He proudly attended Christ's College, Cambridge on a scholarship, and gained degrees in languages and law. His working years were spent as an entrepreneur and business man. He had a yen for travel and loved to write, penning his autobiography, "A Charmed Life." He met and fell in love with Rita in London. They enjoyed many travels together eventually settling in Mexico City. The family enjoyed many happy years there, before settling in Vancouver in 1984. His favourite hobbies were sports, especially tennis, sailing, skiing and golf. He also loved his family, friends, Manchester United, and the Hollyburn Club. He was a great planner and had an excellent sense of humour, compassion and quiet strength. Family and friends will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 29, 2018.
