In memory of Mary Huber
Mary L. HUBER
Nov 17, 1920 - March 23, 2018
Mary Louise Huber ne Shelley of North Vancouver died peacefully at age 97 on March 23rd. She had been a resident of the Churchill House Retirement Home for 7 years after moving from the family home in Ancaster Ontario. Mary was born in Kitchener Ontario on Nov. 17, 1920. and was married to Dr. Grant Huber for 67 years.
Mary's father died when she was 3 years old due to World War 1 mustard gas effects. She and her sister, Esther Shelley Penny spent their early days in Kitchener where Mary became a teacher. She married Grant Huber, an engineering professor. The couple lived in Toronto, Iowa City, India, New Zealand, Calgary and Ancaster Ontario.
She was always an outdoor enthusiast, canoeing into her 80s at the family's cottage in Ontario. She was blessed by an excellent memory until her death. These memories have been preserved in a wonderful book by her friend Roxie Giles.
Mary enriched the lives of many and had friends from all over the world. Her gift for remembering names, always making people feel special enriched many peoples lives. She was able to maintain this right to her passing.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, sister and daughter Nancy Louise Huber. She is survived by her son David of Hillside Colorado (wife Cynthia), Chris and Alan (wife Ngaio) along with grandchildren Jasmine, Jeremy, Jason and Ella all of Vancouver.
The family wish to sincerely thank the excellent staff at Churchill House who made her last years comfortable and happy.
Memorial donations can be made to the Dr Paul Sugar Foundation or the MS Society of Canada https://mssociety.ca/.
